Seaplane Ventures is pleased to announce the first close of the Seaplane Venture Fund and that the fund is now accepting applications from accredited investors.
The Fund invests in US startups at the pre-seed and seed stages with early progress towards product/market fit. Seaplane exclusively invests in startups with business models geared around network effects and recurring revenues.
Seaplane and its network of advisors take a proactive, hands-on approach to advising and supporting its founders on everything from content to product strategy to capital allocation. We have more time to dedicate to our founders as we take a conviction approach and focus our capital on a smaller number of startups (the fund expects to make ≈15 investments).
Seaplane's boutique model also affords flexibility when it comes to funding startups. Our highest priority is backing exceptional founders and startups, not obsessing over ownership percentages. Seaplane is happy to co-invest or provide a startup's first institutional capital.
Joe Magyer is the Founder and Managing Partner of Seaplane Ventures. Joe was a full-time angel investor before launching Seaplane Ventures in 2022 and previously spent 17 years working across investment banking, equity research, and funds management in the US and Australia.
Joe is a 2nd-time investment firm founder having co-founded Lakehouse Capital in Sydney, Australia in 2016. Joe managed more than US$600 million in growth equities at Lakehouse and served as its Chief Investment Officer before stepping back in October 2021 to return to the US and settle in Austin, TX. He has been called a "legend" by Livewire Markets, is a two-time member of The Motley Fool's Hall of Fame, and was twice recognized as a finalist for Money Management's Fund Manager of the Year Awards. A sought after expert and speaker, Joe has made appearances on numerous panels and podcasts over the years as well as the likes of ABC, Bloomberg, CNN, and CNBC.
